This very rare Lotus 17, one of only 21 made, and out of only a dozen left still in existence, was ordered from new from Denmark and entered for its first race on The Roskilde Ring, Denmark on 26th April 1959. Unfortunately, the car did not arrive in time from England. It was then entered for The Copenhagen Cup on 7th June 1959 where it came third after Peter Gamon in a Lola and a Dane in a Lotus 11. At the Grand Prix International on 15/16th August 1959, it had a DNF following a collision with Bob Hicks in a Lotus 11. There was a photo of the car in the program. After the accident the car went back to the factory for repair, new front suspension and a roll bar. In 1960, '61 and '62, the car participated with various drivers in almost all the races at Roskilde Ring (Denmark) including the Grand Prix on 10/11th September and 26/27th August respectively. As such, the car has a qualifying international race history. In 1963, the car only did one race. After that, the car was road registered and had three further owners including the vendor who has owned the car since 1987. The early race history can also be documented by race programs. The vendor raced the car at first time at Knutstorp (Denmark) in 1993 at an FIA event where he won its class. He also raced the car a few times at the Nürburgring. As no work had been done on the car since its days at The Roskilde Ring, the vendor had it completely dismantled and the chassis checked and over hauled as necessary as well as an engine rebuild (FWA 1216cc) by Tommy Brorson of Sweden.
Since then this fabulous Lotus only raced once at The Nürburgring and was occasionally driven on the road. The car is road registered in Denmark as well. It comes with FIA documents from 1993 as well as various other period documentation. This early and very rare Lotus sports racing car is sure to make a most welcome entrant to the various historic race events and is eligible for. It is race ready and represents a excellent opportunity to step into historically important competition.
Dieser äußerst seltene Lotus 17 ( einer von nur 21 produzierten ! ) und wahrscheinlich von nur ca. 12 noch existierenden dieses Typs, wurde 1959 von Dänemark bestellt. Leider traf er nicht rechtzeitig für das erste geplante Rennen auf dem Roskilde Ring ein, kam aber am 7.Juni 1959 anläßlich des Kopenhagen Cups auf den 3. Platz. Im gleichen Jahr verunfallte der Wagen nach einer Kollission und wurde zur Reparatur zurück zum Werk gesandt, wo der vordere Aufbau erneuert und ein Überrollbügel eingebaut wurde. Von 1960 bis 1963 nahm der Wagen nahezu an allen Rennen seiner Klasse in Dänemark teil, was durch die seinerzeitigen Rennprogramme ersichtlich ist. Danach wurde das Fahrzeug von 3 weiteren Besitzern - unter ihnen der jetzige Eigentümer, seit 1987, meist auf der Strasse bewegt. Nach einer umfangreichen Restauration startete der Lotus 1993 erneut in Dänemark bei einer FIA Veranstaltung und holte dort auf Anhieb den Klassensieg. Weitere Rennen auf dem Nürburgring folgten. Der Wagen ist rennfertig und hat neben anderer Dokumentation FIA Papiere von 1993 sowie eine dänische Strassenzulassung. Eine zweifellos einmalige Chance dieses extrem seltene Fahrzeug zu erwerben, welches für die vielen historischen Rennen seines Typs ein höchst willkommener Teilnehmer ist.
