1957 Fiat Multipla – Ex Olympic Games/ Coca-Cola

EU registered                                      Chassis Number: 020843

It is widely believed that the Fiat 500 was Fiat's first rear-engined post-war people's car, but in this respect it was, in fact, predated by the 600 or Seicento. Produced from 1955 to 1969, it measured only 321cm in length but could still accommodate four people and their (light) luggage. It was such a success in post-war Italy that some 2.6 million were built at Fiat's Mirafiori plant. The 600's popularity was not confined to Italy alone though, as a wide range of countries from Russia to Argentina built the car under licence.  Power came from a water-cooled four cylinder motor which was able to propel the little Fiat to 59mph/95kph with the 633cc engine or even to 68mph/110kph with the later 767cc variant.
A year after the 600's debut, the Multipla was introduced - based on the same mechanical components but with the front suspension from the bigger Fiat 1100, it was nothing less than the first people carrier and it could seat six despite being only 50cm longer than the Austin Mini. Not surprisingly it was widely used as a taxi in its native Italy.
This cute Multipla was manufactured in 1957 and is described by the vendor as being in excellent condition throughout having benefited from a full restoration in 2000. Sitting on wire wheels this 1960 Rome Olympics Multipla with Coca-Cola livery is certainly striking and is sure to turn heads wherever it goes. Supplied with Italian registration documents this will be a great addition to any collection.

Estimate: € 14,000 - € 16,000
