Ref 13:
1937 Lagonda LG45 Open Tourer
Registration Number: EU registered Chassis Number: 12063
Throughout the late Twenties and early Thirties Lagonda gained a fine reputation for their 2 and 3 litre sports tourers and, for the 1934 season, a gutsy 4 1/2 litre high performance model joined the line-up. Lagonda was also the only manufacturer ever to win the Le Mans 24 Hour race while technically bankrupt in June 1935.
Many considered Lagonda near rivals to Bentley anyway, so it was natural that WO Bentley should join the new Lagonda management on release from his contract with Rolls-Royce. The LG45 was the first model that WO had a hand in, turning to tuning wizard Harry Weslake to derive more power and finesse from the Meadows engine. This was done in stages and as and when the money was available and sanctioned by the owner Alan Good. Hence the term Sanctions 1,2 & 3.
This impressive Lagonda LG 45 Tourer carries according to the owner, an original body once fitted to an 8 litre Bentley. Its documented history shows that it has been rallied and toured as far as Pakistan, Jordan and many other exotic countries during its life with owners like Count Dönhoff amongst other well known collectors. In recent years it has resided in a German collection and comes with German paperwork and historical registration documents. Finished in battleship grey with red leather interior and full weather equipment, the car is in good condition and a most welcome entry to the many historic rallies it is eligible for.
