1951 Talbot T15 Cabriolet
Registration : EU Registered Chassis Number : 121611
Cars were produced by Clement Talbot Ltd in North Kensington from 1904. However following World War I the company became part of the Anglo-French STD combine consisting of Sunbeam, Talbot and Darracq. During the early twenties the British Talbot arm of the group was weakest with a series of out-dated models. To this end, George Roesch, an accomplished engineer, was transferred from the French Talbot Co in France to develop a competitive new model. The brilliant 14/45 tourer was launched to much acclaim at the 1926 Olympia Motor Show. The 1,666cc six cylinder engine provided smooth power throughout its range. Clearly, the next step was to increase the power. The first development being the 75 series producing 75 bhp at 4,500 r.p.m. from 2276cc The rest of the car, the chassis, steering and brakes were suitably improved. The new car proved very successful despite the economic climate. The car proved so able that later a new derivative, the Talbot 90 was introduced, giving 90 b.h.p.
In 1930 the main London dealer for Talbot cars, Fox & Nicholl were achieving much success in the preparation and racing of the Talbot 90 model. At their suggestion a team of cars were entered for the 1930 Brooklands Double Twelve race. During the 1930 racing season the Talbot 90 model became completely unbeatable. The cars dominating their class, culminating in a 3rd and 4th place at Le mans. This is made all the more remarkable by the fact that these cars were competing in the 3 Litre class, despite displacing only 2300cc The design excellence was such that over 95 b.h.p. was being produced from this unit.
This Talbot drophead Coupe is mostly in original condition. The only work the car had been in need of was a respray in its original dark blue which has been carried out only recently. The interior is well patinated, giving this wonderful feeling so many fresh restorations are lacking. Being in generally good mechanical order, as described by its vendor, this pre-selector model is sure to please its new owner during the summer months. The car is EU registered and comes with Austrian paperwork.
