1972 Zakspeed Ford Escort
Registration Number:* Chassis Number: BFATLK31149
This very desirable Zakspeed Escort was delivered new to the famous Italian driver Martino Finotto, who raced for 20 years at the top level, (IMSA, Endurance World Championship, European Touring Championship and Le Mans).
Most of the Escorts racing in period were Broadspeed versions, (now racing in historic events). This one is a very rare Zakspeed that is similar to the model driven by works driver Hans Heyer, (Castrol colours) which won many international races in 1973/1974.
Finotto used this car to great effect during the 1973/1974 seasons, documented in Autosprint, including a superb 3rd overall in the Giro d’Italia against cars with much more power, like the works Lancia and Porsche.
As Finotto became more dedicated to the arising BMW 3.5 CSL and AMS Tecno 2000 Sport Prototype the car was sold onto Italian collector Maurizio Pinchetti of Verona and was used periodically for hill climbs and historic circuit racing over a 30 year time frame.
The car was then purchased in 2004 by Mr. Pietro Silva of San Remo. Upon acquisition, the car was refreshed by Luigi Moreschi Motorsport including an over haul of the car’s Cosworth BDG. The car was then used in several hill climbs extremely successfully.
The motor has Bosch mechanical fuel injection and is rated at 280+hp with approximately 5 hours of use. Included with the sale are two additional sets of wheels and tyres, slicks/wets. The car was recently given a shake down at a Masters test and tune day at Donnington and performed faultlessly.
This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the very few original Zakspeed cars. Very fast and competitive this car is supplied with current FIA papers and HTP Passport.
