1931 Chrysler Le Baron Sedan

Registration Number : EU registered                   Chassis Number : CD7965

Le Baron was one of the many prominent coachbuilders that sprung up in the 1920s to provide bodies for luxury cars. Until the late 1930s, most of the great prestige carmakers; Rolls-Royce, Hispano Suiza, Duesenberg, Packard, often supplied only a running chassis which wealthy buyers would outfit with custom bodywork at substantial extra cost.

Le Baron was founded in Bridgeport, Connecticut in 1920 by Thomas L. Hibbard and Raymond Dietrich, formerly of Brewster. The company originally was called Le Baron, Carrossiers Inc., and served as design consultants. In 1924 they merged with the Blue Ribbon and Bridgeport Body Companies to become simply Le Baron, becoming body builders as well as designers.

This Chrysler was the height of 1930s luxury and style which was lovingly restored in the 1990s and is reported to be in good condition by the vendor. Only about 150 units of this type were built and this example could well be the only one in existence in Germany. The massive 6 litre, 8 cylinder engine produces 80bhp, enough to cruise on the German Landstrassen or English B routes in comfort. Finished in a nice shade of red with a re-upholstered interior in red leather trim, polished woodwork and chrome, the car offers stylish pre-war motoring at a very modest outlay. The car comes with an old German KFZ Brief and has resided in Germany for more than 20 years.

Estimate: €12,000 - €18,000
