Description

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is an American comic book title which began in 1999. The series spans two six-issue limited series and a graphic novel from the America’s Best Comics imprint of Wildstorm/DC, and a third miniseries and a graphic novel published by Top Shelf and Knockabout Comics.

According to creator Alan Moore, the concept behind the series was initially a “Justice League of Victorian England” but quickly grew into an opportunity to merge many works of fiction into one world.

Elements of Volume I were used in a loosely adapted feature film of the same name, released in 2003 and starring Sean Connery.

Coys are delighted to present Captain Nemo’s hero six-wheeled Nautilus car from the Sean Connery adventure movie The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Designed by Carol Spier and one of only two made, this fully functional and complete vehicle was used throughout the film and features heavily on the promotional posters. Its twin was rigged with scaffolding for filming the actor’s close-ups.

The vehicle started life as a Land Rover fire tender, adapted via a steel frame with the addition of a Rover V8 engine. The chassis is covered in an intricate ivory coloured fibreglass shell and features a wealth of elaborate embellishments in an aged gold effect on both the exterior and interior. Inspiration for the decoration was taken from the Hindu god Ganesha and assorted flora and fauna.

The interior is trimmed with faux leather and even features the original Land Rover dials.

The wheels each measure 72cm, and hidden within the arches are hydraulics to adjust the ride height. The car retains most of its original functionality and shows signs of wear and evidence of running repairs from on-set use.

]In spite of this wear, the car is in running condition, although this vehicle is not legal for use on UK roads and is not suitable for conventional road driving. No warranty is made or implied as to its roadworthiness or mechanical condition.

This is a superb chance to purchase a piece of cinematic history: the film starred Sean Connery, one of the greatest motion picture actors of all time. A great showpiece at events or something to impress your friends – not to be missed.
