Description

The Ford Shelby Mustang GT500KR was revealed at the 2007 New York International Motor Show, and released in the spring of 2008 to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the original GT500. SVT and Shelby announced that 1,000 of these 40th Anniversary Editions would be built for the U.S. Market in 2008. This model was described as “the most powerful Mustang to date” in the press launch.

In his introduction to this last car to bear his name before his death in 2012, Carroll Shelby said that he was “proud to once again be a part of an historical moment, bringing back the ‘King of the Road’ Mustang, and collaborating with Ford SVT and Ford Racing.”

The car is powered by a 540-horsepower 5.4-litre supercharged version of the base GT500 V8 engine, with functional Cold Air Intake and unique calibration.

The Shelby GT500KR features a carbon fibre composite hood with functional scoops and vents, twist-lock hood pins modelled on the original 1968 KR, a unique carbon fibre splitter, carbon fibre mirror caps, and functional brake cooling ducts. The suspension was tuned by SVT with unique spring rates, dampers, stabilizer bars, and strut tower brace and was sourced from Ford Racing. Unique Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires were developed for the KR with a unique compound. With the same tread pattern as the Eagle F1 Supercar tire on the 2007–2009 GT500, they can only be identified by a unique Goodyear ‘Wingedfoot’ emblem on the sidewall.

When new, the GT500KR’s starting price was $120,000. The GT500KR was featured prominently in the new Knight Rider television series on NBC. This Silver example was imported to the UK new and registered in October 2008. The car has remained in the same ownership until 2015 when it changed hands and formed part of a significant European collection. Having covered just over 600 miles from new this particular example has to be the lowest mileage example available in Europe. It is protected underneath with under body seal, has GPS, a full racing specification engine, and has been recently serviced.
