Cadillac, under its presiding genius, the great engineer, Henry Leland who’s background was in the precision management of armaments was the first automobile maker to mass-produce a V8 engine. On the principle, ‘if it aint bust, don’t fix it’ the company has produced eight generations of V8s since 1914, and as a result of its success, was the last General Motors division to retain its own V8 design.
For 1947 the V8 engine offered a wide variety of technical improvements. Cadillac considered this improvement important enough to phase it in on the late ‘46s, together with the normal Cadillac crop of detailed luxury improvements such as powered windows.
