Launched in 1945, the TC Midget was the first post-war MG, although it was quite similar to the pre-war TB, sharing the same pushrod-OHV engine. However, it had a slightly higher compression ratio of 7.4:1 giving 54.5bhp (40.6 kW) at 5,200rpm; the use of more modern interior elements also allowed for a wider cockpit. The makers also provided several alternative stages of tuning for ‘specific purposes’.
It was exported to the United States, even though only ever built in right-hand drive. Between September 1945 (chassis number TC0251) and November 1949 (chassis number TC10252), exactly 10,000 were produced, costing £527 on the home market in 1947. The tachometer was directly in front of the driver, while the speedometer was on the other side of the dash in front of the passenger.
This was one of the last MG TCs produced in 1948, and is believed to have been sent back to America with an airman who was posted in the UK during the WW2. Little more is known regarding the history of this charming little MG, until it was repatriated back to UK shores in the beginning of 2011.
First registered on 3rd February 1949 and finished in arguably the best and most desirable colour combination for a TC – cream with a green radiator grill and matching green hide trim – the car is supplied with UK V5 registration document, MoT valid until 2016 and various invoices and bills.
This MG TC has to be among the most beautiful cars on the market and is described as being in excellent condition having undergone a detailed restoration. Work included an engine rebuild and a conversion to a five speed gearbox carried out by specialist Peter Edney, which offers more relaxed cruising and swifter performance.
