The Jaguar XK120 caused an absolute sensation when it was launched at the 1948 Motor Show. In the post war era of rationing and general austerity and hardship it came as a stunning vision of what the future might hold.
It was, without doubt, the most beautiful car in the world, and the fastest non-supercharged production sports model ever made, up to that time. It’s claimed top speed of 120mph was so astonishing that to prove it Jaguar took one over to Belgium and clocked 132mph!
The response from the public at the Motor Show launch on 20th October 1948 caught Jaguar by surprise, and as orders poured in, it was immediately obvious that the level of home and export demand could only be satisfied by moving from a lightweight alloy-bodied ash frame construction, to tooling up for volume production in steel. The XK120 became a massive success both on the road and the track where it scored numerous victories.
The XK120 for sale here was recently imported from the US where it had been in the same family ownership for almost sixty years. It looks in fine form presented in its original colours of black bodywork with biscuit/red leather trim. Complete with its original engine, this XK120 had its cylinder head replaced many years ago with a new 3.8 E-Type, straight port head fitted with twin 2 inch SU carburettors. XK120 Cylinder head and carbs are supplied with this car. The vendor describes the engine and bodywork as being in excellent condition. This very pretty car comes complete with its Jaguar Heritage Certificate and represents fantastic value.
