1954 Cadillac Series 62 Eldorado Special 2 door Sports Convertible

Throughout the 1950s, the Series 62 models represented the core of Cadillac’s popularity, sales and style while encompassing all forms of body styles, including pillared sedans and coupes, DeVille hardtops and sporting convertibles such as the Series 62 Convertible Coupe and the top of the line Eldorado. Benefiting from Harley Earl’s acclaimed design leadership at GM, all Series 62 models remain highly coveted today for their balance of Cadillac’s cultivated design heritage with the cutting-edge stylistic advancements of the era. Changes for the carefully refined Series 62 models of 1954 most notably included a three-inch wheelbase extension accommodating a longer, lower and sleeker body shell. Other prominent design cues included a handsome egg-crate grille, an inverted gull-wing front bumper with pronounced “Dagmar” bullet fairings and the fashionable wraparound windshield of the limited-production 1953 Eldorado. At the rear, a redesigned bumper incorporated dual exhaust outlets.

Engine output was also substantially increased for 1954, with Cadillac’s stellar V8 engine now producing 230 hp, thanks to subtle engineering enhancements including new aluminum-alloy pistons, while maintaining the original 331 cubic inch displacement. Power was delivered by a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, while automatic windshield washers, power steering and a 12-volt electrical system became standard Series 62 features. The Series 62 Convertible Coupe weighed nearly 4,600 pounds and was priced from $4,404 when new in 1954. Just 6,310 examples of this image-leading automobile were originally produced, with each surviving example remaining highly prized by today’s collectors.

Showing a recorded 98,000 miles, this fantastically stylish Cadillac was part of the display at HSH The Prince of Monaco’s 100 car Museum at the Terraces de Fontvielle, Monaco. Restored in 2008, this lovely Series 62 Convertible is finished in Cream with a striking Black and White Leather colour scheme.

With a recent bill for €1800, this Cadillac is in good order, and ready to cruise along the boulevards and seafronts of the South of France. This Series 62 will be offered with Dutch registration papers.
