Description

This fabulous XK150 Drophead Coupe was first registered in 1958, later finding its way to Sydney Australia and to one further owner since 1990. In 1996 the restoration work started in earnest. The engine was rebuilt by Jaguar Specialist Graeme Lord of Sydney, including a conversion to unleaded petrol. At the same time new ring gear was fitted, and the flywheel was balanced. The engine was treated to stainless steel exhausts and silencers, and the radiator overhauled. A new petrol tank and sender were fitted, with an electronic petrol pump. The generator was overhauled and a geared starter motor fitted. The gearbox and overdrive were built up using all new bearings and seals and mated to a new driveshaft. The rear axle and differential were totally overhauled and all the bearings and seals were replaced. The car was then treated to an overhaul of the braking system, with the fitting of Koni shock absorbers on each corner.

Whilst all the mechanical work was proceeding, Warwick Parr of Warwick’s Autobarn in Sydney restored the bodywork, whilst the chassis and fittings were sand blasted and painted. The bodywork was prepared and finished in Nightwatch Blue. All woodwork was renewed, including the hood bows, floor panels and dashboard. The chrome work was professionally restored and new pieces purchased where required. The instruments were overhauled and calibrated by Olympic Instruments, Sydney, new Jaguar headlights and rings were acquired, as was a new steering wheel. Four new Daytona chrome spoked wheels and a new windscreen completed the exterior build.

Finally the XK was upholstered by specialists Hy-tone of Sydney; the seats, internal door panels and dash were covered in Sahara leather, with cinnamon carpets to the passenger compartment and boot area. The convertible hood was upholstered in dark blue canvas with a mohair lining, with a matching hood bag. Since being rebuilt, this stunning XK has never been driven in rain and is totally rust free. Supported by a photographic record of the works completed, and associated invoices, we are sure this must be one of the best XK150s on the market today.
