This late November 1961 MK II Coupe is a rare example indeed. In total over 10,000 coupes were built of all variants- but of this version there were only 600. The final development stage high compression engine fitted to this car develops 95HP and accelerates the little 830 Kg car to 60mph in only 12 seconds! The MKII model was the first MGA to have disk brakes in front as standard, . This car was ordered and still retains its charming and period colour of “Alamo Beige” with red leather interior.
The interior is very original, the leather seats still have their original leather and piping (which was different from the roadster) . In addition the original instruments hold the correct S/N number for this model year. The engine is in good order , and benefits from a 123 igintion system. The original is still available and comes with the car.
With just two owners in the last 20 years, the car has covered a mere 6000 miles since 1996. In addition the original registration book from 1964 is available, where its owner (an American pilot living in the UK), had ordered his car in the factory with LHD and exported the car to the United States.
It appears the car returned to European shores in 1994, first in Spain, then in Denmark (where it was owned by the photographer Hans Heedegaard, who permitted his car to be used as reference model for the book called “original MGA” by H. D. Clausager) and then in Germany since 1996.
Presented in good to excellent order, and fitted with its original engine, gearbox and the largely untouched interior this has to be one of the nicest MG A’s Coys has offered for some time. It is rare to find such a spectacular car with such provenance and careful ownership; this is an opportunity not to be missed.
