The Volkswagen Beetle is truly a motoring icon. Launched in 1938 as the ‘People’s Car’ it was designed to bring mobility to those of fairly modest means; the price brief to its designer, Dr Porsche, was that car had to be able to be sold for 100 reichmarks. It remained in production in various guises all over the world for close to sixty years, and during its production life the basic concept remained unaltered – although it underwent over 70,000 identifiable modifications.
This particular 1962 example has been in the ownership of the Queens Mother’s chauffer since its importation in to the UK in the mid 1960s. Meticulously maintained by him and fully restored by a well known VW restoration house in 2010, this wonderful car is described as being in excellent condition overall. Finished in the charming colour of Turkish green that suits the cars character perfectly and with a complimenting grey cloth interior, all described as excellent.
Fitted with the highly desirable and practical Golde sunroof; allowing the sun in and the wind to breeze through; this beautiful example is perfect for the coming summer months. Supplied with a V5 document, MoT certificate valid until next year and various old MoT certificates as well as the registration number ‘71 GLU’, this is a great opportunity to purchase a highly usable Beetle, ready to be enjoyed this summer.
