Introduced in 1965 as the replacement for the 101 series Giulia Sprint 1300 – the final version of the Giulietta Sprint series – the GT 1300 Junior was Alfa Romeo’s coupé entry model. Powered by the 1,290cc twin cam engine, as fitted to the Giulietta series cars, it was revised for the new 105 series with reduced port sizes and other modifications. Nonetheless, 89bhp was a lot for a small engine – an engine which had been introduced to avoid the higher taxation on models with larger engines – an important consideration in Alfa Romeo’s Italian home market. With a beautifully proportioned 2+2 body built by Giorgetto Giugiaro on behalf of Bertone, the GT 1300 Junior remained in production for over a decade.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GT Junior 1.3 is fine example of the first series, otherwise known as ‘Scalino’, or step-nose due to its step-nose bonnet. It was restored in 2015 and it is presented in a lovely Giallo Ocra (Ocra Yellow). This car is described by the seller as being in generally very good condition, and this is a rare opportunity to purchase a model that is rapidly increasing in popularity among knowledgeable collectors.
