The Porsche 911 is perhaps the most timeless design ever seen in motoring history. The car dominated its class as soon as it was launched in September 1963. Today, albeit very much more developed, it continues to attract adulation from enthusiasts and the motoring press alike. This unconventional and charismatic car evolved at an astonishing pace in its early life, with significant developments occurring annually during the late 1960s and early 1970s.

In 1967 the Targa version of the 911 was introduced as a ‘stop gap’ model; the Targa had a removable roof panel, and the name ‘Targa’ came from the Targa Florio road race in Sicily, in which Porsche had notable success: 11 victories in total.

Purchased by Porsche Centre Hatfield in 2013 as a restoration project, this 1972 Targa was then undertaken by Porsche Hatfield to return it to its former glory. Tony Walker, an employee at Hatfield for nearly ten years and one of their specialists on engine rebuilds, oversaw the restoration.

The car was totally stripped and a complete nut and bolt rebuild was carried out – but with a modern twist to the interior – and the overall colour being grey/black, which was added to the 50 year anniversary and GT3 models. The interior is finished in black with contrasting red stitching, seatbelts, dash trim and bezels, and, as one would expect, is described as being in excellent order.

Porsche Hatfield has recently been awarded the Classic Partner status and this car was used to showcase their skills. Initially on display in the Hatfield showroom, it was subsequently displayed at the Porsche Hatfield Macan launch in April 2014, Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce Inspire Awards Event in May 2014 (which coincided with the arrival of the 991 Targa), and finally Region 21 Porsche Owners Club Street Concours event Meeting in July 2014.

Described by Porsche Centre Hatfield as being in excellent condition in every respect, this unique car, is supplied with a UK V5 document and an MoT certificate valid until November of this year, and is sold direct from Porsche Hatfield.
