Description

It is easy to understand why the most desirable first-generation Porsche 911, the Carrera RS, is also the most satisfying. The RS was created to fill a void in the Porsche racing paddock when a change in regulations effectively took the venerable 917 out of commission. Porsche designated its already formidable 2.4-litre 911S as the starting point for a new Group 4 GT class entry. Following the proven racing formula of reducing weight while adding power, Porsche’s engineers got to work and went on to create the most sporting 911 yet available to the public.

The Carrera RS came in two flavours, the M472 “Komfort”, also known as the “Touring” version, which retained most of the interior trim of the 911 S and had a steel rear bumper, and the lightweight M471 “Sport” model, which was aimed at club racers. The most distinctive feature of the RS was its new “ducktail” rear spoiler, which had been demonstrated in wind-tunnel testing to greatly reduce rear-end lift at high speeds. Interestingly, the ducktail was not legal for highway use in Germany, but most cars were retrofitted with them by their owners. The Carrera RS could be ordered in a fairly wide range of colours, with highly visible “negative” side stripes and an engine lid decal in blue, red, green, or black. The wheel centre spokes were painted to match the trim colour, helping to make the Carrera RS stand out.

This wonderful 911 SC has been modified to resemble the iconic 911 RS of the early 70s. No expense was spared during the build which included a full RS touring body backdate as well as much mechanical work. Both the engine and gearbox have been the subject of renovation work as to the brake and suspension system. In 2017 the car was treated to further maintenance work completed by a well-respected marque specialist. Presented in Gulf Blue the body and paint work are both in good general condition as is the interior which is very presentable. A fantastic opportunity to acquire one of Porsches most sort after models fitted with easily the most iconic specification. Supplied with a UK registration document and MoT until August 2018.
