Description
The Porsche SC range did not include a Carrera version and all models featured the reliable, smooth and well-balanced 3.0-litre engine. Despite not carrying a Cerrara 3.0 Badge, the SC used the same mechanical components and kept the attractive flared wheel arches from the Carrera, while also benefitting from enhanced timing of its camshafts, a feature that has remained until this day.
Previous owner of ten years, Mr Colin Atkins, had the car undergo complete top and bottom engine rebuild as well as a bare metal respray and in 2015 it was purchased by its current owner, a true Porsche enthusiast and collector, who held a ‘no-expense-spared attitude’ and took the car to veteran Porsche racer Mick Phillips of Club Autosport, where the car underwent a further bare metal respray and began its body backdating process.
Period specific 2.7 RS front and rear bumper sets and a pre-1973 long bonnet were fitted, the gearbox was completely rebuilt and the engine’s hydraulic timing chain was upgraded.
In 2014, unhappy with the new bonnet panel fitting, the vendor went to the well renowned Porsche specialists R.G.A of London. Here the whole front body panel was changed to fit the correct period-specific fibreglass long-bonnet that was of the highest quality available. This Classic was then left with R.G.A over the winter so that they could go over its mechanics one last time with a fine tooth comb.
After a further £2,300 was spent, the vendor was finally happy with his now quite remarkable Porsche, and describes the car to have “balanced handling with a ‘pin sharp’ steering response”, and that the engine’s shorter crank stroke works well with a straight through stainless sports exhaust giving the now much lighter car, “phenomenal acceleration”.
Finished today in the marvellous colour combination of Golf Blue with Blue and Beige Leather interior, and with invoices totalling over £17,000, this must be one of the more desirable 911 SC’s on the market today. Provided with the truly appealing 2.7 RS styling, finely tuned mechanics and having done only 4,000 miles with its current owner, this car is worth closer inspection and needs to be driven to be fully appreciated.
