Taking its name from a type of Camel known for its speed, the Méhari was launched at the Paris Auto Show in October 1968 and would remain in the range for the next 20 years, only disappearing when 2CV production ceased in France in 1988, by which time a total of 144,953 had been made.
The Méhari you see here has been the welcome recipient of a huge amount of restoration work, with many new parts fitted. The restoration was exhaustive, and included new body panels, a new galvanized chassis and tubular frame, replacement wiring and lighting systems, along with sundry other smaller components. To complete the look, the car now sits on new set of tyres. Méharis are a true expression of the sense of freedom we enjoyed the 1960s and 70s, and this excellent example none more so. The perfect way to enjoy the summer, which is only just around the corner!
