Developed under the watchful eye of Porsche Chief Executive Peter Schutz, the 911 Carrera 3.2 made its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show of September 1983. Visually indebted to the outgoing 911 SC, the newcomer was made available in Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet guises and wore a revised front valance complete with auxiliary driving lamps and a subtle ‘Carrera’ script on its engine lid. Estimated to be 80 percent new, the model’s 3164cc (hence ‘3.2’) flat-six engine was credited with developing some 231bhp and 209lb ft of torque.
Allied to a five-speed transmission, it proved to be both rev-happy and flexible. Capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and 153mph, the Carrera 3.2 was progressively refined and updated over the course of its six-year production run. The first 911 Cabriolet debuted in late 1982, as a 1983 model. This was Porsche’s first cabriolet since the 356 of the mid-1960s. It proved very popular with 4,214 sold in its introductory year, despite its premium price relative to the open-top targa. Cabriolet versions of the 911 have been offered ever since.Manufactured on 29th August 1985, this beautiful 911 Cabriolet has clearly led a pampered life. Described as being in excellent condition in all respects, the 911 has a full Porsche Service History to support its stated mileage of 85,000, in addition to all previous MoT certificates.
We have on file service receipts for thousands of pounds spent on maintenance over the years, with a full service completed just under 1000 miles ago, which in addition involved attention to the brakes and oil cooler, at a cost of £2,000.
Finished in the classic combination of Guards Red with a tan leather interior, this is an iconic car of the 1980s which will bring the next lucky owner many driving days of pleasure, whilst proving a very sound long term investment.
