1988 Peugeot 205 GTi

The King of the hot hatches. Volkswagen may have started the GTi craze in 1976, but many still consider the Peugeot 205 GTi as the greatest of them all.  The 205 was launched in 1983, a brilliant rival to its contemporaries with its ‘wheel at each corner’ design and flyweight mass.

No wonder it won What Cars ‘Car of the Year’ in 1984 and was declared ‘Car of the Decade’ by CAR Magazine in 1990.
This particular two-owner from new, 1.9 litre, model has been cherished and this is evident from the condition of the car today. The car was stored from 1996 at just 64,617 miles (a date stamped MOT receipt supports this) and came out of hibernation in 2015.

Since then, the car has been sparsely used and shows approximately 74,000miles today. This is unusually low mileage for a cult icon especially compared to the average 205 GTi on sale today. There is an invoice on file from the Peugeot Specialist in Shropshire, French Connection, for nearly £7,000. This details an engine out strip down, with parts being blasted and zinc coated. At the same time it had a new water pump, cam belt and clutch amongst other things. The alloys have been recently refurbished and the interior is in good condition.

The original sales checklist, dealer handbooks, dealer service history and two sets of keys are included. The photos are inadequate to convey the condition of this desirable 80’s hot hatch and it really must be seen to be appreciated.
