14 Years in Current Ownership
The first BMW Z1 (Z standing for Zunkuft, German for future) was shown at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor show. Initial demand was so strong that 5,000 orders were placed before production even began. The car developed by BMW Technik GmbH featured a unique door arrangement where the doors, instead of opening outward, dropped down into the car’s sills.
Of the 8,093 produced, around 7,000 stayed in Germany, and a mere 77 cars were registered to new owners in the UK, of which just 50 or so are estimated to survive today. You will recognise a genuine UK-delivered car by the speedo in MPH and fuel gauge measured in gallons.
First registered at German BMW dealer Fett & Wirz, this well maintained BMW Z1 has been in the UK since 1998. The Z1 is offered with a substantial service history file documenting its life both in Germany and the UK. The current owner purchased the Z1 in 2003 and since has maintained it every few thousand miles with either his local BMW agent or respected specialists.
Finished in Dream Black Metallic with its original ‘Nubuck Suede’ and Camouflage Leather, the paintwork presents well, and the interior is free from the watermarks common on Z1 interiors.
Now showing a sensible 85,000 kilometers (53,000 miles) from new, this well sorted Z1 is offered with a fresh service, UK MoT, original toolkit, book pack and thick file of invoices. If you are looking for a beautifully maintained classic with strong investment potential, then look no further.
