The Porsche 964 is the company’s internal name for the Porsche 911 manufactured and sold between 1989 and 1994. Designed by Benjamin Dimson in 1986, it featured significant styling revisions over previous 911 models, most prominently the more integrated bumpers. It was the first generation 911 to be offered with Porsche’s optional tiptronic automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive as options.
Known internally as the 964, Porsche’s new generation 911 debuted in 1989 and was available in two (Carrera 2) and four-wheel drive (Carrera 4) guises with its familiar silhouette clothing a radically revamped platform. Boasting a drag coefficient of just 0.32 thanks to its deeper bumpers, smoother sills and flatter floorplan, high-speed stability was maintained by a self-deploying rear spoiler which rose above 48mph. Powered by an extensively reworked 3.6-litre air-cooled flat-six equipped with twin spark plugs per cylinder and a re-mapped Bosch Motronic fuel injection, the 964 claimed an impressive 250bhp and 229lbft of torque. Fitted with a five-speed manual gearbox as standard, most variants were reputed to be capable of 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds with a top speed of over 160mph.
This particular 964 Targa is in exceptional condition, having covered just 58,000 documented miles. It benefits from a full service history at Porsche specialists or approved garages, most recently in July 2019 at Ninemeister Porsche Warrington. Additionally, the car benefits from the desirable cup mirrors and 17-inch cup wheels. The original compressor, toolkit and all important book pack are all present and correct as is the spare key.
It is finished in the unusual colour of Turkish metallic green with light grey leather and contrasting black dash, the removable Targa top is in excellent condition and fits well. The wheels are unmarked with new Michelin pilot sport tyres recently fitted. This car has clearly been well looked after and is ready to drive away by its new custodian.
