A very rare car in the UK, and probably the lowest mileage genuine Evo II RS on these shores, this superb Mitsubishi is presented in totally standard specification with no modifications and just 35,853 miles (57,365 km) on the clock.
This example remains in completely original condition, with original paint and interior. There is no corrosion at all on the car, and no dings, dents or scratches to the body panels. The interior is also in near perfect condition.
Used sparingly for events and shows over the last two years, E2 RSN has obviously been doted on by a fanatical owner. On the road, the car feels tight and supple, with eye-widening performance and barely believable grip given the modest 205-section tyres on RS-spec 15” OZ Racing wheels. Brakes are reassuringly powerful, and the steering is accurate and direct. Easy to see how these cars dominated Group A rallying during the 1990’s, running rings round Integrales and Cosworths!
The RS version of the Lancer Evolution models is a stripped back, lightweight homologation special, designed in many cases to be prepared as a Group A rally car (hence the simple white paint). Weighing just 1180kg and with 252bhp and 228 lb.ft of torque from the legendary 4G63 engine, The RS model featured a mechanical LSD, no radio or door speakers, manual windows and the simplest possible interior trim. Only the Recaro seats and MOMO steering wheel, and the three auxiliary gauges (including turbo boost) in the centre console, gave any indication as to the true performance of this 4WD rally weapon.
Never sold officially in the UK, the early Evo models are therefore very rare, with the RS version even more so. A true collector’s car and one which may also prove to be a shrewd investment, as the car will become eligible for export to the USA in July 2019 when it reaches 25 years old.
