Mercedes-Benz introduced the ‘E-class’ to the market in 1985 with the Cabriolet version available from 1991. The W124 series was designed to last many miles with awards actually presented and received for high mileage versions. Much of the 124’s engineering and many of its features were advanced automotive technology incorporating innovations that have since been adopted throughout the industry. It enjoyed one of the lowest drag coefficients of any vehicle at the time due to its aerodynamics which included plastic moulding for the undercarriage to streamline airflow beneath the car reducing fuel consumption and wind noise. It also had a single windscreen wiper with an eccentric mechanism at its base extending the wiper’s reach to the top corners of the windscreen.
Finished in Silver with a Black Leather interior, and fitted still with its original radio, and with the rare manual gearbox, this is a clean and straight example of what is rapidly becoming a collectible youngtimer Mercedes of exceptional quality.
