In 2000, Porsche introduced the 996 Turbo, equipped with four-wheel-drive and a 3.6-litre, twin turbocharged and intercooled flat-six producing 420bhp, making the car capable of 0-60mph in 4.2 seconds. In 2002, the standard models underwent minor re-styling, which included switching to the Turbo-style headlamps and to a new front fascia. These were sometimes known as the Mk2 generation of the 996.
Although the Turbo is water-cooled, it is not the same engine that is found in regular 996s. The turbo engine can trace its ancestry back to the old air-cooled units and is directly related not only to the 996 GT3 but also the GT1 racer (3.2-litres and 600bhp!). The other 996 engines were a completely different design and had gasket problems that could lead to catastrophic failures, but not so the Turbo. This engine is very strong and can be tuned up to well over 500bhp.
This fabulous late 2005 model year 996 Turbo was specified from new with the rare and desirable ‘‘09991’ option which designated that the car was produced via Porsche’s Exclusive Programme. Amongst many original features present are the rare factory upgraded 18” Sport Techno wheels, and even the original (and often mislaid) Porsche occasional umbrella which tucks neatly into the passenger door sill.
Originally supplied by Porsche Centre Reading to ‘C16’ UK specification, this wonderful 996 has covered a mere 40,000 miles from new in the custody of just two owners, supported by a full Porsche Main Dealer service record. Notably the current lady owner has enjoyed the Porsche for now 11 years. The Turbo has recently benefited from a service and Health Check by the Porsche Centre in Guildford, and is supplied with all relevant Porsche invoices, a stamped Porsche Service Book and relevant Porsche manuals,
All in all is an extremely carefully owned and maintained 996 Turbo which would be a welcome addition to any serious Porsche collection. The Porsche is offered with a new UK MoT certificate, two sets of keys, and a full book pack.
