This highly limited edition built by McLaren Special Operations was based on the 675LT. At the MSO HS’s heart is the same 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 installed throughout the McLaren range, but in this configuration power and torque are increased through blueprinting, hand-polishing of the exhaust ports and a flow-optimised crossover muffler with titanium exhaust tips. The resultant outputs are 679bhp – an increase of 13bhp over the 675LT – and 516lb ft available from 3000-7000rpm, against the 675LT’s 516lb ft from 5500rpm.
A new aerodynamic package ensures that power is transmitted to the tarmac. Most obvious is the use of a large rear wing inspired by the similarly prominent scaffolding on the back of the P1 GTR. Compared to the 675LT, there are some significant changes to the aero work and body panels. Carbon fibre is used for the new front bumper and splitter as well as the dive planes stuck on to the front end plates. The bonnet and roof (which incorporates a new scoop), are also gloss carbon.
More carbon fibre is used along the new HS-stamped side skirts, side intake, rear diffuser and engine bay. However, the pièce de résistance is the large active rear wing. It’s inspired by the P1 GTR’s, but it’s not fixed. Just like the other Super Series cars, it rises to become an airbrake, but also shifts electronically to change the aerodynamic profile of the car on road and track.
Adding lightness was a major concern for the HS. So the windscreen glass is the lightest McLaren could find, the engine cover polycarbonate, the exhaust is forged titanium while the P1’s gorgeous carbon fibre seats have been fitted, saving 15kg.
Each of the 25 cars produced were independently specified and came with an individual livery which is unique to the car. So of the 25 made, this is 1 of 7 right hand drive models and 1 of 1 with the gorgeous Heritage Green livery with yellow accents and sections of exposed carbon fibre. Inside the car is fitted with black alcantara with contrasting yellow stitching. The specification is very extensive and includes ultra-lightweight 10-spoke wheels finished in Satin Black, MSO defined carbon fibre steering wheel, full body paint protection film, stealth pack, Meridian Surround Sound system, McLaren track telemetry app & cameras, sports exhaust, soft close doors, vehicle lift, Volumetric alarm upgrade & vehicle tracking system. There is no question that this represents an extraordinary opportunity to purchase a one-of-a-kind McLaren that is exceptionally rare, achingly beautiful and undoubtedly exhilarating. A chance not to be missed by the true collector.
