The Alfa Romeo 2000 Spider was launched in 1958 using practically the same engine and running gear as the far more ubiquitous Alfa Romeo Berlina Coupe, but with a tuned engine and a spectacular convertible monocoque body designed by the famous coachbuilders, Touring of Milan.
The four cylinder engine had the same displacement as the Berlina, but produced 115bhp at 5,700rpm, as opposed to the coupe’s 105bhp at 5,300rpm.
This was due to the addition of twin carburettors and an improved compression ratio of 8.5:1. This produced a top speed of 109mph, as opposed to the Berlina’s 99mph.
One of only 3440 produced, this wonderful example comes from a Danish Alfa Romeo collection in which the last owner lavished much care on the Alfa over his 10 year ownership. The Spider is mechanically in excellent condition with engine, brakes and gearbox functioning very well. The beautiful original interior is still in place, with original instruments. Bodily the car was subject to a restoration during the previous vendor’s tenure, and presents very well with beautiful paint, and very nice chrome. Still in fantastic overall condition, this is a supremely stylish motor car and a true joy for its next owner.
